statefair2014

It’s back! The State Fair of Texas: A Great Texas Tradition returns Friday, September 26! The State Fair is one of the Metroplex’s best events for the fall. There is really something for EVERYONE at the State Fair! Live music at the Chevy Main Stage, an auto show for car and truck lovers, a Midway for the kids, shopping, and 2014 Big Tex Choice Award winning food like the Fried Gulf Shrimp Boil!

Entertainment

The Chevy Main Stage has a great line up this year that includes Kyle Park and Kool & The Gang! You can check out the full Chevy Main Stage line up here. The best part about the Chevy Main Stage Entertainment is that it is included with your Fair admission!

If live music isn’t your thing, don’t worry the State Fair has plenty of other entertainment options for you! The Pan-Am Arena hosts 3 of the most popular Fair attractions, Jump! The Ultimate Dog Show, Pig Races, and Ostrich Races. These shows are held daily, check your fair guide for specific times.

Thrill seekers won’t want to miss the BMX Bike Stunt Show! This group of all-star stunt riders perform their daring tricks on four different ramps that are set up next to the crowd. Over by the Auto Show exhibits, your family will find the MAPAPA African Acrobats! These acrobats are sure to wow your family with their balance abilities and amazing acrobatic stunts.

Wind down your evening by taking in one of the two night shows at the Fair. The Starlight Parade features fun floats, creative costumes, and lively characters making their way through the fair grounds. The water and laser show, Illumination Sensation, is located on the 700 ft. esplanade reflecting pool. Both of these nighttime shows are wonderful ways to end your day at the State Fair.

Food and Drinks

Honestly, we could devote an entire post to the tasty treats of the State Fair, but for today we will keep it simple and try to contain ourselves. The State Fair of Texas is known for the Big Tex Choice Award competition for the Most Creative and the Best Tasting Fair dish. This year’s top honor of Best Tasting goes to Clint Probst for his Fried Gulf Shrimp Boil and Justin Martinez took home the award for Most Creative with his Original State Fair Brew- Funnel Cake Ale. Be sure to check out all of the Big Tex Choice contestants and see if you would have made the same call the Judges made! Don’t forget to check out the Beer and Wine gardens for a nice place to relax while sipping on the perfect chilled beverage! There is plenty to snack on at the State Fair, so take your time and share with a friend! If all else fails, you can always come back again!

Auto Shows and Chevy Ride and Drive

It’s no secret that our family loves visiting the auto show at the State Fair! We love looking at the latest models from the different manufacturer’s and comparing the features and benefits of different vehicles. This year we are looking forward to paying a visit to the Chevy models that will be out on display including the 2015 Chevrolet Stingray and the 2015 Colorado Z71. We haven’t seen the Chevy Colorado in a few years and we are very excited to see what has changed on the 2015 model. Along with the Stingray and the Colorado, the 2015 Chevy Trax and the 2015 Chevy Silverado HD High Country will be in attendance.

The one event that our family will not miss this year is the Chevy Ride and Drive at Chevy Park Plaza. Chevy Park Plaza is located northeast of the Top o’ Texas Tower and the Midway and is tons of fun for the whole family! Fair guests, 18 or older with a valid driver’s license can take one of 6 Chevy models for a test drive on a special test drive track! Don’t miss this great opportunity to take a unique test drive and put your favorite vehicle through the paces!

Take your pick from one of these 6 amazing vehicles:

Upgrading to a Family Vehicle

Before your family started growing, buying a new vehicle for yourself used to be a fairly straight forward process. See a truck, pick out the color and the trim level and sign on the dotted line in the finance office. Now that you have a growing family, buying a new vehicle can be an overwhelming task. Never fear, we’ve outlined a few things for you to consider when looking at a new car or truck.

Safety

You know your new vehicle is going to come with some standard safety features like air bags and seat belts, but what about those extra safety features that manufacturers are always going on about? Those extra features like OnStar’s Automatic Crash Response, Side Blind Zone Alert and Lane Departure Warnings are available on most new Chevys and really set Chevrolet apart from the pack in safety.

OnStar’s Automatic Crash Response will detect when your vehicle has been in a crash and will connect an adviser to your vehicle to see if you need any assistance. Side Blind Zone Alert uses radar sensors to keep an eye on those dreaded blind spots on the side of your new vehicle. When an object is in your Side Blind Spot, a LED light illuminates on your side mirror to alert you. Lane Departure Warning alerts you whenever your vehicle starts drifting from the lane that you are in without using the turn indicator.

The 2014 Impala received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for Safety which is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) highest rating.

Comfort and Cargo

One of the biggest challenges of buying a family friendly vehicle is making sure that you don’t sacrifice comfort for cargo space and cargo space for comfort. Finding a happy median is key! Thankfully, the 2014 Traverse and the 2015 Tahoe have all of the cargo space your family will need without being skimpy on the creature comforts!

The 2014 Traverse boasts a class-leading 116.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and the Traverse makes it easier to access all of your goodies with its power remote lift gate. The Traverse also uses Smart Slide second row seating, making it easier than ever to load the little league team without mud getting all over the upholstery.

The 2015 Tahoe offers the convenience of power folding, flat folding, third row seats giving the Tahoe plenty of room to haul fishing gear to the lake. The Tahoe LTZ models have standard heated and cooled leather front seats and with multiple seating configurations, it’s easier than ever to customize your seating to fit your family’s personal needs.

Seating Arrangements and Car Seats

If you have little ones in tow the last things you want to hear on your daily drive is “Mom, she’s touching my arm!” or “Dad, he’s breathing my air.” or even “Stop looking out my window!!”. These are all things that have been said in our car this week. Right now, our little ones are stuck in their car seats so they don’t have many options when it comes to where to sit to get away from their brother, but soon enough they will be out of car seats and free to roam the cabin until the seat belt sign comes on. If that day is here for you, bring the kids along when you look at new vehicle options and have them sit where they would normally sit. Are they a little too close to each other for comfort or do they have enough room for all of their stuffed animals pals?

With car seat requirements changing as often as your child outgrows a new pair of shoes, it’s incredibly important to make sure that your car seats will fit into your new vehicle. Don’t just look at the interior and assume that your 3 car seats will fit in the back seat of an Impala. Depending on the size of the seat, they might fit, but the time to figure out the car seat logistics is in the dealership parking lot, not in your driveway while you are running later for preschool. For the record, we DID get 3 seats (two toddler seats and an infant carrier) in the back seat of an Impala safely, but it would have been MUCH easier in a larger vehicle like a Traverse or Tahoe. Don’t be afraid to test out your car seats in the new vehicle before you sign any papers, your back will thank us later.

Stop by our showroom and let us know that you are looking for a family friendly vehicle that will be able to last your family through it’s growing years! Our sales team is full of guys with families of their own, so they know where you’re coming from when you say family friendly!

The Fairbanks Family History

Just in case you are one of our new friends, here is a little Chuck Fairbanks History for you. How we started, what we believe in, and where we are headed.

Chuck Fairbanks Sr. and Chuck Fairbanks Jr. 1994

Chuck Fairbanks Jr. and his father, Chuck Fairbanks Sr., the highly successful former head coach for the University of Oklahoma and the New England Patriots, began Chuck Fairbanks Chevrolet on June 13, 1980 in Lancaster, Texas. Chuck Jr. built the same kind of ALL-PRO TEAM in the Chevrolet business as his father had done for many years in the football business. Chuck Jr. credits his father for instilling in him strong morals, a solid work ethic and a desire to be the best to accomplish the highest standards.

In October of 1993, Chuck Jr. built our current facility right off of Interstate 35E, in DeSoto, to accommodate the needs of his growing business. The very next year, we poured more concrete to store our inventory on site, keeping up with the demand for Chevy trucks.

In September of 1997, the foundation was laid for our Pre-Owned building. In 2013, we remodeled our dealership and upgraded our buildings to a more modern and comfortable atmosphere for our customers. Our state of the art facilities were redesigned with our customers in mind and we do our best to make you feel welcome in our home.

Every year, around our birthday, we throw a little party we like to call Fish-Fry Friday. We serve up fresh fried catfish, hot hush puppies and all the extras to our loyal customers, hardworking employees, and friends in the community.

We believe in giving our customers a great ownership experience in all areas of our business, sales, service, parts and body shop. We’ve been in business for 34 years and some of our employees have been with us since the early years, making it possible to have a great experience with the same staff year after year. In a sea of publicly held companies and auto groups, Chuck Fairbanks Chevrolet is a welcome rarity. We have been proud to serve our community for the past 34 years and we are excited to serve for many more years to come.
