The redesigned 2015 Chevy Tahoe was the fastest selling SUV in the month of February and has plenty of rave reviews. I sat down with Sales Manager Jody Ward and Salesman Daniel Long to learn more about the changes, inside and out, that were made to push the new 2015 Tahoe to the limits.
Looking at the outside of the Tahoe, there have been some major changes! Hit the highlights for me:
Daniel: The entire body style has been revamped. The front end of the 2015 Tahoe isn’t quite as large and is lower, making it more aerodynamic than the previous models. Previous models took their aesthetics from the Silverado, but this Tahoe stands on its own. This model has projector beam headlights and LED trim lights that light up when you unlock the Tahoe. Another big difference is the triple seal doors, doors that have at least three seals which reduces road noise and create a quieter ride. The rear passenger doors open up wider, which allows you to enter and exit the Tahoe with ease.
Ok, let’s take a look at the interior, besides the obvious upgrades, like the Chevy MyLink motorized screen, what else are people excited about?
Daniel: People are excited about the plush feel of the leather and the extra power sources. There are plenty of USB ports, power outlets and even scan card slots to accommodate everyone’s gadgets. The door panels have been redesigned with passengers in mind, keeping all of your favorite settings in close range. There are more actual dials and knobs, rather than touch activated buttons, and the personal LED pin spot lights have surprised people. One major interior change that has everyone excited is the power folding third row seat. Not only does the third row fold down with the push of a button, but it now folds flat, offering even more cargo space than ever before.
What about safety? Anything noteworthy there?
Daniel: Absolutely, in addition to a rear camera that shows images on the MyLink screen, there are forward sensors, rear sensors and blind spot sensors. The forward and rear sensors let the driver know when there is an object within 8 ft. of the sensors. The driver will be able to see this notification on their Driver Information Center, on their dashboard, as well as feel it as their seat vibrates. If the sensors pick up something in front of the Tahoe, the front of the seat will vibrate quickly, letting you know there is something in front of the SUV. If the sensors pick up something behind the vehicle the back portion of the seat will buzz. These sensors also offer lane departure warnings if you were to drift into another lane without using your blinker. The blind spot indicator, on the side mirrors, will light up when they detect an object in your blind spot, which would caution you to look twice before making any sudden changes.
How about underneath the hood? What does the 2015 have to offer?
Jody: The 2015 has a completely new engine, an EcoTec3 5.3L V8, which was designed to generate more power while offering the best fuel economy against any other large SUV competitor. EPA estimates 23 MPG highway, but this engine does not compromise performance to give better gas mileage. This efficient engine is a hard worker that generates 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft of torque. The 2015 Tahoe has direct injection which measures the highly pressurized duel to inject into each cylinder, boosting power and fuel efficiency, while keeping emissions in check. This EcoTec3 engine helps manage fuel by reducing power at cruising speed and picks the pace back up when it senses that more power is needed. The suspension system has been reworked to be stiffer to offer a smoother ride and the maximum towing capacity is 8,500 lbs which is plenty to tow boats, jet skis, and four wheelers.
I was already excited about the new 2015 Tahoe, but after talking through some of the major design changes with Jody and Daniel, I am even more excited to take one for a spin! The new Tahoe has something special for everyone, whether it’s the power folding third row, the front and rear sensors, or the air cooled seats. If you would like to take a new 2015 Chevy Tahoe for a spin, stop by the New Car Showroom this weekend and see for yourself how the Tahoe is redefining the standards for excellence.
